Why use mantras or prayers? Because they work!
Choosing to say a mantra or prayer with intention can make or break a just-ok-day. You can say it any amount of time—even as little as 15 seconds—and anywhere you are able to—at home, in the car, in the parking lot at work, at the gym, or on your walk. I say a brief 15-second prayer to my guides and angels before every meeting. I say, “I call on all of my guides and angels to please support me and the person I am meeting with so that we have the best outcome possible, for both of our highest good, as well as the project’s highest good.”
Mantras and prayers can be fun! You can make up your own; just listen to your heart. What does it say? What do you need in this moment? Write it down and use it. Repeat it in your mind or out loud for as long as you want and as long as it feels good. Are you frustrated or angry? You can turn these feelings into a direct intentional plead for support.
For example, “I’m calling on you, my guides and angels. I need your support right now to help me have the day that’s best for my highest good. Please send ease and grace along the way so I can handle this!” Or something shorter, “Dear guides and angels, please help me to have a wonderful day and help me to be given all of the guidance, love and support that I need to feel good and radiate love now.” And so on!
You can go on and on and even have full on conversations with your guides and angels at home, on walks, or wherever you want to. They will show up in their own way and support you, always. You may not hear or see them, but you will notice a difference in your day, oftentimes, immediately.
There are no rules as to the length or amount of time you do a mantra or prayer. You decide what’s best for you. What feels good? What is making a difference? What isn’t? Sometimes a mantra is as simple as repeating a person’s name over and over like “Amma” or “Jesus” or “Buddha.” What does this feel like? Some names will feel better than others. Experiment and have fun!
Listening to, saying, or singing a mantra can brighten your mood almost right away. It can also bring you to the present moment in your heart and enable you to feel emotions you may not have realized were there. After 15 minutes of this mantra, you may notice your vibration will be higher. You may shed some tears, you may feel lighter, you may feel elated with joy; all kinds of emotions may arise that were right there inside of you.
Mantras and prayers can get you out of your head, and help you release fear, sadness, and ego. They can make you feel good in the moment, the way meditation or walking in nature can. Repeating a mantra helps bring you back to love and into your heart. When you intend to have a better day, or to feel better, it can help. When you say a mantra or prayer about wanting to feel better, the power is even greater. I like to say this mantra that came to me one day when I needed it, “I am love, all day, all the time.”
With prayer, you can pray to whomever you feel guided to—angels, God, your higher self, Buddha, Jesus, Quan Yin, Tara, archangels, your ancestors, loved ones, pets, or everyone together; whoever you feel will hear you best and who you need support from in that moment. If the issue is health related, I usually call on Archangel Raphael. For protection, I call on Archangel Michael.
What is intention? Intention means you really believe what you are asking for. You really know it is going to happen. You really want and need it! If you do not truly want it, or feel you don’t deserve it, this could get in the way. However, repeating a mantra can bring you to your heart, help you remember you are deserving, and get you out of your fear-based mind.
With prayer, if you ask, they can answer. If you don’t ask, they can’t answer. Your guides and angels don’t care if you have fear when you ask. All they want is for your best good, for you to be happy. Once they give you the gift of that nice day, notice it and feel the gratitude. Sometimes we aren’t ready for what we asked for. Or when it is given, it may be in a different form than we expected. Just be open to receiving the gift!!! And don’t give up before the miracle has been given.
If you have a little more time, you can clear, strengthen, and protect your energy by doing a brief chakra cleansing. Start at your root chakra and make your way up to your crown. If the idea of golden light feels better than a chakra cleanse, you can surround yourself with a bubble of it. Picture the golden light running through you, cleansing every part of you from your head to your toes. You can also say the mantra, “I am fully protected. Only love can enter my aura of light.”
It’s really up to you. It doesn’t matter which format you choose or where you do it, as long as it feels good to you.
